Get to work, grand jury

By John Kanelis / johnkanelis_92@hotmail.com

The grand jury has been seated, sworn in and given its task.

It works for the Manhattan, N.Y., district attorney’s office and is being asked to determine whether to indict Donald Trump, the company he owns, anyone who works for him and perhaps even members of the ex-president’s family.

The grand jury is looking for criminal misbehavior.

Hmm. Now I don’t how you look at this, but I would consider this to be a serious wakeup call for Donald Trump that the Manhattan DA’s legal eagles are in hot pursuit of criminality involving the the former POTUS.

To be sure, Trump calls it all “political” and part of what he calls the “greatest witch hunt” in human history … or words to that effect.

He offers no evidence of pure partisanship other than just to call it what he alleges it to be.

I feel the need to remind readers of this blog that grand jurors swear to look objectively at evidence presented to them. Failure to be impartial carries criminal penalties of their own. What sane individual would take such an oath with no intention of being faithful to it?

Oh, wait! Trump took an oath, too,  to defend the Constitution and to serve the country with honor and honesty. Do you think he was faithful to his oath? Well, me neither.

Which suggests to me that the grand jury is going to take great care in its pursuit of potential criminal liability in Trump’s business dealings.

So, with that … time to get busy, grand jurors.

How does this guy run for POTUS?

The Hill had this to report today:  Cruz, who won reelection to the Senate in 2018, regularly spars with progressives and political enemies on Twitter and is widely expected to consider a run for president in 2024.

“Cruz,” of course, is Ted Cruz, the junior Republican U.S. senator from Texas who has aspired to be president from the moment he took office in 2013. He tried in 2016 before losing the GOP primary to Donald Trump.

He wants to run again for president, or so many political observers apparently believe.

Ted Cruz knocks MSNBC’s Brian Williams over ‘Kremlin Cruz’ label | TheHill

I am wondering: How in the world does the Cruz Missile for the office if Donald Trump wants his old job back?

You see, Cruz morphed from a ferocious Trump critic when he ran against him in 2016 to one of his most sycophantic followers after Trump took office.

To this day Cruz does not dare repeat the things he said about Trump back then: sniveling coward, amoral man, narcissist, pathological liar.

Here’s the deal: Cruz was right when he said those angry things about Trump.

What happens if Trump decides he can actually be nominated by the GOP in 2024? Cruz might have to put his presidential ambitions on hold until 2028. He dares not repeat the truth about the former Idiot in Chief.

Go away, Donald

By John Kanelis / johnkanelis_92@hotmail.com

I continue to await the day when I no longer can wonder what in the world is going to fly out of Donald Trump’s mouth, what ends up on the news, what gets people yapping and yammering about this and/or that bit of nonsense.

Sadly, that day hasn’t yet arrived. The 45th POTUS keeps making news. Damn that dipsh**, anyway!

Some of the news isn’t of his making, at least not directly. We have those ongoing investigations that have turned into criminal probes of alleged illegal conduct. That’s newsworthy, right?

Then we have the other stuff, such as his declaring war against certain Republicans — politicians from his own political party (allegedly!) — who fail to do his bidding … as if it matters any longer what he says or does. I mean, the guy lost an election bigly against President Joe Biden.

And then — and how can we forget this — he continues to foment the Big Lie about how President Biden “stole” the election by taking advantage of “rampant vote fraud.”

There … was … no … vote … fraud!

That hasn’t stopped the butt wipes in Arizona from conducting that phony “audit” looking for miscounted ballots that would give the state’s electoral votes to Trump instead of where they already have been certified, in President Biden’s cache of votes.

I am sick and tired of Donald J. Trump. I want him off the grid. I want to concentrate on people in public life who really matter to me — and to the rest of the country that is trying to come back from the pandemic chaos that the ex-POTUS only worsened.

What happened to Middle East peace?

By John Kanelis / johnkanelis_92@hotmail.com

This thought just kicked in.

Didn’t the most recent ex-POTUS task his son-in-law to come up with a comprehensive peace agreement?

Jared Kushner got the assignment from Donald Trump. He went here and there during Trump’s term in office. The administration announced deals between Israel and the United Arab Emirates and with Bahrain, right?

But what about Hamas, the terrorists who run the West Bank and Gaza? They launched rockets into Israel; the Israelis fought back.

Then the Joe Biden administration turned up the heat on the Israelis and on Hamas to get a cease-fire deal done … as in right now!

They did.

However, I am just wondering why Jared Kushner’s alleged diplomatic “genius” failed to produce an agreement.

Trump now part of a ‘criminal’ probe

By John Kanelis / johnkanelis_92@hotmail.com

Well now, it appears that Donald J. Trump might have a new line of crap to sling for those of his “political base” to embrace.

Hey, he can say that New York prosecutors are looking at alleged “criminal activity” inside the ex-POTUS’s sprawling business empire.

It won’t matter to the Trump fanatics out there. They seem to embrace the shenanigans upon which Trump built his organization. Now, though, the stakes well might be getting mighty hot for the former liar/imbecile/prevaricator in chief.

The Hill reports: “We have informed the Trump Organization that our investigation into the organization is no longer purely civil in nature. We are now actively investigating the Trump Organization in a criminal capacity, along with the Manhattan DA. We have no additional comment at this time,” Fabien Levy, a spokesperson for the New York attorney general’s office, said in a statement.

New York prosecutors investigating Trump Organization in a ‘criminal capacity’ | TheHill

Trump hasn’t commented on this latest bit of news. He has chided the Manhattan district attorney’s investigation into Trump’s financial matters as a “political witch hunt.” It’s a standard Trump mantra; it’s all political.

Now, it appears that the stakes are getting mighty steep.

I would love to be a fly on the wall of the room where Donald Trump might learn that he is being indicted on a felony criminal charge.

So would you like to watch Donald Trump’s reaction to such news … if it comes.

Trump is back? Good grief!

Donald J. Trump might be set to re-enter the political arena.

He is a disgraced former POTUS who got hammered in his bid for re-election in 2020. Trump faces possible criminal indictments in New York City and Fulton County, Ga. He’s got a huge debt of $400 million coming due. He continues to foment The Big Lie about the 2020 presidential election.

You know all about The Big Lie. It’s the one that suggests that President Biden won because of rampant vote fraud. Except there was no such fraud. Biden won fairly, squarely and bigly.

Trump signals he’s ready to get back in the game | TheHill

But the ex-POTUS is going to engage in some political rallies. He’ll lend his voice on behalf of Republican candidates running in the 2022 midterm election.

His hijacking of a GOP only demonstrates how far the party has fallen. Trump is a classic Republican In Name Only. The man has few actual political friends, just a cabal of officeholders and contenders who fear what can happen to them if they cross Trump.

To think that one of them, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, says “no one” questions Biden’s legitimacy as our commander in chief. Uh, Earth to McCarthy … Donald Trump questions it.

He wants to be a player in the midterm campaign.

Sigh …

I want the blowhard/carnival barker/ex-liar in chief to disappear.

Mme. Mayor, you have messed up

By John Kanelis / johnkanelis_92@hotmail.com

Ginger Nelson has been elected and re-elected mayor of Amarillo, Texas, as a non-partisan public official. In her capacity as mayor, she officially belongs to no political party.

Which brings me to this point: What in the name of political sanity is the city’s non-partisan mayor throwing her arms around the likes of some of the most partisan Republicans on the national stage today?

The New Mexico Republican Party moved its annual conference to Amarillo because the party doesn’t like New Mexico’s continuing COVID pandemic restrictions. They came to Amarillo to sing the praises of the disgraced Donald Trump and to whoop and holler at the likes of South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio and the Panhandle’s Rep. Ronny Jackson, all of whom have served as Trump suck-ups and sycophants.

She could have just welcomed the New Mexico GOP to the city she governs, encouraged them to spend some dough and revel in the sights and sounds of the Texas Panhandle.

Then Nelson posted this on Facebook: Conservative ideals are good for our city, our states and our nation. We live those ideals everyday in Amarillo, and I’m glad that Amarillo is participating in the national political dialogue about what is best for our families, our businesses, our cities and our nation.

Conservative ideals? Really, Mme. Mayor? Sure thing. What about conspiracy notions about “stolen elections” and “rampant voter fraud,” which are two of the idiotic propositions being promoted by the folks with whom Nelson is proud to hobnob at the NM GOP conference?

My goodness. This is profoundly disappointing to me. I barely know Ginger Nelson; I have had precisely one brief conversation with her. I supported her election and re-election as mayor because of her economic vision for the city.

I didn’t give a damn about about her political leanings. She serves as mayor with no regard to partisanship. I do give a damn now because she has embraced the political toxicity these GOP wackos have brought to Amarillo.

Very disappointing, Mme. Mayor.

GOP gap set to widen

By John Kanelis / johnkanelis_92@hotmail.com

I have this burning need to inform the Republican Party that booting out a conservative leader of the GOP House caucus only widens the divide between two factions within the party.

The Trump faction has its suck-up in the chair, Rep. Elise Stefanik. The establishment wing’s darling, Rep. Liz Cheney, has been cast aside.

The Trumpsters vs. The Establishment.

Let the battle commence. I am going to pull for The Establishment wing. It’s not that I am one of them. It is that the Trumpsters now are seeking to become poised to ruin the country, not to mention their political party.

The Trumpsters in the House, now led by Stefanik, are going to promote the Big Lie, that Trump lost the election via theft and vote fraud. They are lying their a**es off. They are continuing The Big Lie that Trump himself keeps alive.

They disgust me to no end.

As for Liz Cheney, she is far from my favorite House member. However, she voted to impeach Trump after the then-POTUS incited the insurrection on Jan. 6. What’s more, she has continued to stand strongly behind her vote and has drawn the wrath of the Trumpsters with whom she serves.

The fight for control of the congressional Republican caucus ain’t ending. You go, Rep. Cheney.

Cheney for POTUS? Wow!

By John Kanelis / johnkanelis_92@hotmail.com

The Liz Cheney soap opera is getting downright weird, man.

The congresswoman from Wyoming, who has just lost her job as House Republican caucus chair, has been asked whether she would run for the GOP presidential nomination in 2024. Her answer: She said she will do anything to stop Donald Trump from getting the nomination.

“I’m very focused on making sure that our party becomes again a party that stands for truth and stands for fundamental principles that are conservative,” she said. “And I won’t let a former president or anybody else unravel the democracy.”

Well …

What do you think of that one?

Cheney won’t rule out running for president to stop Trump (msn.com)

Cheney lost her GOP congressional post because she voted to impeach Donald Trump after he incited the Jan. 6 insurrection. She hasn’t let up on the ex-POTUS. She calls him a threat to our democratic process.

She is correct about the danger Trump poses. The House GOP, though, is looking to populate its leadership roster with Donald Trump suck-ups. That ain’t Cheney.

Now she’s talking openly about running for POTUS?

Why, we’ll just have to stay tuned.

Make me happy … Donald

By John Kanelis / johnkanelis_92@hotmail.com

Donald John Trump said this today:

“I’m loving what I do and I’m loving the result that we’ve had and I think people will be very happy with my decision.”

The decision to which he refers is whether he runs for president in 2024.

I’ll concede that I will be happy only if he makes the correct decision.

That would include the following conclusions:

  • I cannot be nominated by a Republican Party that has been decimated by my backstabbing, Twitter-loving messages.
  • Prosecutors are going to indict me on allegations that I committed several crimes in at least two states.
  • I already have lost two presidential election popular votes and I have embarrassed myself by declaring that the 2020 election was stolen from me because of rampant voter fraud.
  • There was no rampant fraud.

Is he going to do any or all of that? Oh … probably not.

If he jumps into the 2024 campaign, which would surprise me to no end given the obstacles he must confront, then I won’t be “happy” with his decision.

If he stays out of the race, well, that would bring a smile to my face.
