Laura shows her crassness

Laura Ingraham long has been considered part of the right-wing, nut-job cabal of talking heads who rose to infamy during the Donald Trump administration. Still, I didnā€™t actually realize she was capable of the kind of crassness she exhibited the other day when revealing that the nationā€™s top military leader had contracted the COVID-19 virus.

But she did.

Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Mark Milley has tested positive for the virus. The highly decorated, battle-tested Army general is exhibiting mild symptoms. Heā€™ll be OK. Ingraham, though, applauded while telling her Fox News viewers of Gen. Milleyā€™s condition.

Can you comprehend why someone such as Ingraham would do such a thing? When in the name of non-partisan defense policy did the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff become a political punching bag?

Oh, I guess itā€™s because Milley expressed regret for taking part in that hideous photo op with Donald Trump the day Trump traipsed in front of the church to hold up a Bible. Or perhaps it was when Milley questioned Trumpā€™s response to the 1/6 riot.

There was Ingraham, a COVID-19 denier and blowhard right-winger, cheering the notion that the Joint Chiefs chair is now afflicted with a disease that has the potential of inflicting some serious harm to the manā€™s heath.

Disgraceful. Then again, this is what I have learned to expect from the right-wing media corps of Trumpkins.

Cruz needs to grow a spine

A most interesting thread has appeared in many of the critical comments about Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas.

It’s that he doesn’t have a spine. He is gutless. A coward, even.

He most recently blurted out a fundamental truth, which was that the 1/6 insurrection was the act of domestic terrorists. Then the GOP base loyal to Donald Trump — the insurrectionist who incited the riot — got all fired up; it blamed Cruz for abandoning the MAGA mantra, whatever the hell it is.

Cruz then ventured onto the Fox News program hosted by Tucker Carlson to walk it back. Cruz said he misspoke. Carlson wasn’t buying it. Cruz stumbled over his clumsy feet. He looked and sounded predictably pitiful.

The other time that rivaled Cruz’s latest exhibition of spinelessness was when he jetted off to Cancun while Texans were freezing to death in February. He came back when the crap hit the fan and then he sought to blame his decision to flee the state on his daughter, who wanted to get away with Mom and Dad. Ridiculous!

The guy is one of two men who represent Texas in the U.S. Senate. It’s no surprise to regular readers of High Plains Blogger that I detest him. He serves his own interests over all else. He doesn’t give a sh** about me, my family or my friends.

He wants to be president. My question is this: Do we really want someone without an ounce of integrity or courage to represent us on the world stage? Hell no!

‘Fair and balanced’ now becomes ‘false and deceitful’

The hits just keep coming as they regard the Fox News Channel and the lies that continue to flow from a network that used to proclaim itself to be the “fair and balanced” presenter of news.

Wow! We hear now that Fox News personalities implored Donald J. Trump to stop the 1/6 insurrection. They emailed him, asked Don Jr. to tell Dad to make ’em stop rioting at Capitol Hill, urged White House chief of staff Mark Meadows to get Trump to intervene.

Trump did nothing. He didn’t heed the pleas of his own son, his own chief of staff or those of his favorite network talking heads.

A more serious aspect of this, though, are the lies that kept flowing from the pie holes of those same personalities. They told their viewers that the riot was not a big deal. That Trump was being vilified unfairly. That he didn’t incite anyone to “take back the government.”

The credibility — if you want to call it such — of the likes of Laura Ingraham, Sean Hannity, Tucker Carlson, Jeanine Pirro et al has been shattered into millions of pieces.

Unbelievable!

Fauci is no Mengele

Unbelievable.

Thatā€™s how Iā€™ll start with this brief post about something I heard on ā€” where else? ā€” Fox News.

Lara Logan, a supposed journalist, compared Dr. Anthony Fauci to the notorious Nazi doctor Joseph Mengele, who during World War II conducted hideous experiments on Jews. Mengeleā€™s aim was to perfect ghastly treatments and he used Jews as experimental patients. Many of those patients died from the experiments.

Logan somehow, in some fashion, conflated the mask and vaccine mandates enacted to fight to COVID-19 pandemic with what Mengele did during the Second World War.

What makes this idiocy even worse is that the Fox News anchors allowed her to continue that trash rant of hers without challenging what in the name of human decency she was alleging.

https://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2021/12/02/fauci_im_astounded_fox_news_has_not_disciplined_lara_logan_for_comparing_me_to_mengele.html

You can see it on the link I just attached to this post.

Good Almighty God in heaven! What in the world is it going to take to shut down these hate mongers who do nothing but slander and defame the reputations of learned professionals who are trying to help this nation get through a medical crisis?

Fox News takes needed hit

The liars at Fox News have been given notice by two of their contributors, Jonah Goldberg and Stephen Hayes, that they ā€” the contributors ā€” will not tolerate the lies broadcast by Fox News talking head Tucker Carlson.

Goldberg and Hayes said they cannot stand with the network after it broadcast Carlsonā€™s special on the 1/6 insurrection. Carlson called it ā€œPatriot Purge,ā€ and according to Goldberg and Hayes ā€” two leading conservative thinkers and columnists ā€” the program was full of lies, distortions and unfounded conspiracy rumors. They wonā€™t be part of a network that allows such lying to go unchallenged.

Good for them.

To be honest, I didnā€™t watch it. I donā€™t need to watch what I know it contains. I have heard Carlson spew much of the trash I know he poured into the production of ā€œPatriot Purge.ā€

According to The Wrap:Ā Carlsonā€™s ā€œPatriot Purgeā€ has drawn sharp criticism since its launch, with the Anti-Defamation League calling on Fox News to cancel it. ā€œLetā€™s call this what it is: an abject, indisputable lie, and a blatant attempt to rewrite history,ā€ ADL CEO and National Director Jonathan A. Greenblatt said in a letter addressed to Fox Corporation CEO Lachlan Murdoch. Greenblatt expressed alarm that the ā€œfalse narrative and wild conspiracy theoriesā€ presented in ā€œPatriot Purgeā€ could ā€œsow further divisionā€ and possibly ā€œanimate violence.ā€

Fox News has given itself ample reason to be ashamed of itself. Carlsonā€™s phony documentary is just one more example of the lies that pour forth from a network that once boasted to be ā€œfair and balanced.ā€

Fox News dude joins vaccine crowd

You go, Neil Cavuto.

The Fox News correspondent has come down with the COVID-19 virus. He is feeling OK, but he has joined a growing list of news and opinion pundits in calling for the rest of us to get vaccinated.

He put out a message that in effect said, “forget about all that crap you’re hearing on the political side of this matter. Get your vaccine.”

Yes, Neil. You are so right You have a wide audience of viewers who otherwise might not be inclined to get vaccinated. They are listening to those on the right and the far right about so-called side effects created by the vaccine, whether it’s from Pfizer, Moderna or Johnson&Johnson.

Spoiler alert: My wife and I have taken both Pfizer vaccines and the booster … and neither of us grown a third eye. Honest, man! We’re good!

So it is with gladness that I welcome an influential journalist to the ranks of vaccine supporters.

Get well, Neil.

He’ll make me happy?

The former Liar in Chief said this to his minions at Fox News this week:Ā “I think you’re going to be happy.”

About what? About his decision on whether he intends to run for POTUS in 2024. The one-time Numbskull in Chief keeps dropping hints that he intends to seek the office next time out.

Would he make me “happy” if he decides to keep his overfed backside off the campaign trail? Uhh, yeah. Do ya think?

Trump says it’s an ‘easy question’ whether he’ll run again (msn.com)

I would be decidedly unhappy if he decides to make another run for it, even though I am going to stick to my previously stated view that he won’t do it.

I have a member of my family who believes the former Imbecile in Chief should run so that Democrats and perhaps even some actual Republicans can replay video of him exhorting the insurrectionists to storm the Capitol Building on 1/6. That would doom the ex-Nitwit in Chief’s chances, according to this family member.

Whatever. I am waiting with bated breath for the ex-Moron in Chief to “make me happy.”

Golden Rule, anyone?

By John Kanelis / johnkanelis_92@hotmail.com

This story almost got past me, but I want to offer a brief response to what I believe is a growing trend among those who feel personally aggrieved by comments delivered by public figures.

Fox News talking head Tucker Carlson reportedly was accosted by a fellow who objected to the blowhard’s comments, presumably about the COVID-19 virus. Carlson was shopping with his family. The guy who berated him I suppose believed that since Carlson speaks to all of us via TV that it’s all right to speak to him in any venue, in any context, at any time.

Wrong! I harken back to the Golden Rule, the item in Scripture that instructs us to treat others as we would want to be treated. Therefore, I venture to suggest that no human being would want to be hassled, harangued and hectored by total strangers even if they are in the public eye spouting public policy.

I am not wired to confront individuals in that fashion. Other public officials have suggested that it’s OK to get in the faces of those who say objectionable things. I believe they are mistaken.

I also believe that everyone — even those in the public eye — are entitled to spend private time with family members.

Don’t lecture me about the First Amendment’s free speech clause. I know what it says and what it means. My reading of it, though, tells me it does not give anyone license to verbally assault other Americans whenever they damn well feel like it.

Let’s show some respect, man.

VP goofs with Memorial Day greeting

By John Kanelis / johnkanelis_92@hotmail.com

This news item came from Fox News, but you know what? The right-leaning news network makes a point in mentioning an error of omission that came from Vice President Kamala Harris.

The VP offered a Memorial Day greeting that wished us all a happy “long weekend.” The criticism comes from those who wondered why Kamala Harris didn’t mention the significance of the “long weekend,” which is the significance of the fallen warriors we honor each year.

The critics are correct. The vice president certainly understands the significance of the Memorial Day weekend. Yet for a sitting VP to fail to recognize it publicly with a social media greeting just makes many of us a bit chapped.

This is a somber weekend. Yes, we should enjoy each other’s company, the fellowship we are engaging in as we come out of the COVID pandemic. Let us also pay tribute to the Americans who paid the supreme price so we can enjoy “the long weekend.”

Cancel culture bites horse? What?

By John Kanelis / johnkanelis_92@hotmail.com

Did I hear this correctly?

Bob Baffert, the legendary race horse trainer, told Fox News over the weekend that his steed, Medina Spirit, is a victim of what they call the “cancel culture.”

Eh? What the … ?

Medina Spirit won the Kentucky Derby. He is trained by Baffert. The race gurus then ran a test on the horse and found some sort of illegal drug in his system. He faces disqualification if a second test confirms the first one.

Now we have Baffert telling a right-wing media outlet — those goofs at Fox — that he and Medina Spirit have been victimized by the lefties’ “cancel culture.” That the horse is the victim of some nefarious plot to disqualify him from winning racing’s crown jewel.

Man, oh man. I do not get this guy.

He denies the horse had the drugs in his system. The tests say something different. If a second test confirms the first, the horse will face disqualification. It’s a simple issue, yes?

Medina Spirit may have been racing with a substance flowing through his veins that he wasn’t supposed to have. Someone gave him the drug — allegedly.

Ain’t no cancel culture at work here … Bob!
