Political violence ‘has no place’

Politicians of every imaginable stripe and conviction are saying the same thing tonight in the wake of an incident at a Donald Trump campaign rally in Butler, Pa.

Political violence “has no place” in our system of government and politicking, they have said.

Trump spoke today at an outdoor rally. Then he flinched, grabbed at his right ear and sank to the ground. The Secret Service detail assigned to protect the former president were on him in an instant, shielding him from further harm.

Medical personnel rushed Trump to a center where he was treated for what looked like minor injuries to his ear and possibly the right side of his face. The Secret Service issued a statement declaring the former POTUS to be “safe” and “doing fine.”

For that we all should be relieved.

A shooter reportedly is dead. Eyewitnesses reported hearing several noises that sounded like gunshots. The district attorney then announced the authorities are treating this incident as an “assassination attempt.”

Now comes the difficult part of this commentary. How do we stop the kind of hateful rhetoric we’ve been hearing on the campaign trail? Too many speakers have spoken of doing violence to political protesters. They have lamented the presence of protests, even though the Constitution protects such activity as legitimate free speech.

I would advise Donald Trump himself to take stock of what he has said on the stump and wish for all I can that he cease the kind of rhetoric he has bellowed.

This incident, I fear, is a consequence of the deep divisions that have fractured this great nation.

  1. Bullshit! Youā€™re trying to blame this on Trump!!?? Itā€™s a damn mental asshole! Iā€™d bet a demented liberal considering 90%+ of all major shootings are done by liberals. Like you, they canā€™t handle other opinions. Itā€™s either their way or no way!

If the liberal media, and guys like you, would quit spouting lies about Trump, assholes might be more restrained!

    1. The depths of your assholeness seemingly knows no limits. Damn right I blame Trump for spouting the hateful rhetoric we’ve been hearing from that rotten son of a bitch since the day he rode down the escalator and entered the political world. Stop making assertions — such as most major shootings are done by libs — that you cannot back up with facts. So … fuck you and good night.

  2. CNN headline ā€œTrump speech interrupted by Secret Serviceā€. And you continue to say the media is not biased and plays no part with the division of our country. Condemn that bullshit or you confirm you are a part of the problem.

  3. Perhaps the author of this blog should look in the mirror- become more self-aware and refrain from the vitriol he spews on a regular basis.

His name calling and foul language only add to the problem.

    Set a a good example.

Civility- like incivility- are contagious . Become more civil.

  4. Listening to all these Democrats the last two days bitching that the shooter MISSED says a lot about liberals. How in the hell can people come out mad that he wasnā€™t killed. But, when the media, and certain bloggers, compare Trump to Hitler, they arenā€™t saying that in hopes heā€™ll be sent flowers. They are obviously hoping the flowers are sent to the immediate family after his death. The rhetoric the left and media put out there, this was bound to happen. You canā€™t keep trying to demonize someone and think nothing severe will happen. Maybe High Plains Blogger will gain a conscience and stop the hate that he continually writes about and stop blaming the victim.
