Ex-Trump flack made the case against armchair diagnoses

Katrina Pierson? Where are you?

The former flack for the Donald J. Trump presidential campaign has been hiding somewhere since his election.  I wrote about her a year ago after she delivered an armchair medical diagnosis on Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Here’s what I wrote:

Pierson isn’t a medical doctor. She is — or was — a TEA Party activist and political communications consultant who lives in the Dallas area.

Why bring this individual up again?

She demonstrated the danger of trying to psychoanalyze her former boss’s performance as president from a distance. The president is behaving badly at almost every turn these days. His idiotic tweets seemingly reveal a distasteful juvenile quality in the man’s personality, not to mention an absolute ignorance of the office he inherited when he won the Electoral College vote this past November.

The long-distance diagnoses are starting to creep into the national discussion of Trump’s performance as president. Is he unstable? Is he sufficiently “competent” to do the job? Is there something medically wrong with a man who simply cannot change his method of operation?

Let’s not go there.

Pierson, wherever she is, should have taught us all a lesson — bigly! It is that it is inherently dangerous to pretend to be something or someone we are not.

I’m planning to just watch the president flail and flounder his way, albeit with just a touch of glee. It would serve us all well to avoid falling into the trap that ensnared Katrina Pierson when she sought to talk about something about which she knows not a damn thing.

Is it ‘Dr.’ David Plouffe these days?

plouffe

Now, now, now, David Plouffe.

Let’s not venture where we do not belong.

Not long ago, I — among others out here in the peanut gallery — got all over Katrina Pierson, a spokeswoman for Donald J. Trump, for issuing what amounted to a medical diagnosis of Hillary Clinton.

Pierson said the Democratic presidential nominee suffers from “dysphasia,” a neurological disorder.

“Ugghh!” we all thought. Knock it off, Ms. Pierson, we said.

Now it’s Plouffe weighing in, declaring that Trump — the Republican nominee — is a “psychopath” and that he “meets the clinical definition” of psychopathic behavior.

To his credit, “Meet the Press” moderator Chuck Todd called Plouffe down for issuing his own diagnosis, pointing out that he doesn’t have a medical degree or a degree “in psychology.”

Plouffe kind of shrugged and admitted he isn’t trained as a shrink.

David Plouffe is a brilliant political strategist, having engineered Barack Obama’s winning presidential campaign in 2008 and later serving as a senior political adviser in the White House.

He’s no doctor. So, let’s cease the medical diagnoses.

As Todd told Plouffe, “This is what gets voters so frustrated.”

She plays a doctor on TV news shows

Katrina Pierson blamed an earpiece for an earlier gaffe.

I don’t think she can rely on that dodge for this one.

Pierson is a Texan who serves as a spokeswoman for the Donald J. Trump presidential campaign. She told a TV interviewer recently that the Afghan War began on President Obama’s watch.

Oops! Uh, no, Ms. Pierson. It began on President Bush’s watch, right after 9/11. She said she misunderstood the question and couldn’t hear it properly because of chatter on her electronic earpiece.

OK, whatever you say.

Now, though, she has diagnosed a medical condition in her hero’s Democratic opponent for the presidency, Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Pierson said Clinton suffers from dysphasia, a rare brain disorder.

Double oops!

You see, Pierson isn’t a doctor. She is a failed congressional candidate. She is a flack for the Republican presidential nominee. She now has tossed a lead weight on the innuendo being tossed around about Clinton’s physical health and taken it to a new depth.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2016/08/18/trump-spokeswoman-diagnoses-hillary-clinton-with-dysphasia-despite-not-being-doctor/

Of course, though, Trump won’t disavow her “diagnosis.” He won’t take her to the proverbial woodshed. He will allow such nonsense to bounce around throughout social media.

Sometimes politicians — and their spokespeople — tend to speak about matters of which they have no direct knowledge.

Do you remember when Terry Schiavo, the comatose patient whose family sought permission to let her “die with dignity,” was in the news? A senator, Bill Frist, offered a medical diagnosis that sought to support his contention that Schiavo should be kept alive.

Let’s understand that Frist, a Tennessee Republican who’s no longer in the Senate, is a noted transplant surgeon. However, he never examined Schiavo, so he was unable to offer anything close to a precise diagnosis of her medical condition.

Now we have someone else — with even less knowledge of medical matters — going on the air and saying some truly thoughtless, careless and ridiculous things about a major-party candidate for the presidency of the United States.

I have a simple request of Katrina Pierson: Don’t talk about things about which you know nothing.
