It’s all about Cruz’s mouth

Do you want to know why this kerfuffle over Ted Cruz’s aborted vacation in Cancun is gaining such traction?

I am going to tell you anyway, even if you don’t care one little bit?

The Republican U.S. senator from Texas has taken great pains to blast the daylights out of other politicians — chiefly Democrats — who take vacations at inopportune times.

Thus, it is Cruz’s mouth that has gotten him into trouble.

Cruz jetted off from Houston to vacation with his wife and daughters at the very time Texas is struggling to recover from serious Arctic blast that resulted in millions of Texans losing electrical power, natural gas to heat their homes or water to drink.

He tried to pawn it off on his daughters, whose schools were closed because of the weather. They asked Mom and Dad if they could go somewhere warm. Sen. Cruz and Heidi Cruz obliged. The family took off for Cancun. Then the fecal matter hit the fan.

Cruz then  returned home. To his credit (I reckon), he has apologized for messing up. Still, the story will be tough to kill and bury. Why? Because the junior senator from Texas has made a nagging habit of sounding sanctimonious as it regards politicians’ working and vacation habits.

He tore Austin Mayor Steve Adler a new one in December because Adler vacationed in Cabo San Lucas while the city he governs was struggling with the pandemic. Cruz is on record saying that Congress shouldn’t take vacations when there is so much damn work to be done. They should just work, work, work until the job is finished, he has said.

So what does the Cruz Missile do now? He wants to be a good parent and leave the country — not just the state — while Texans are suffering grievously.

As the saying goes, “Words have consequences.” Those words carry a particular consequence when a politician who utters them intones a high degree of self-righteousness while castigating others … and then does the very thing he condemns.

What can he do? Plenty!

Allow me one more shot at the Cruz Missile.

Ted Cruz went to Cancun to bask in the sun with his family while the state he represents in the U.S. Senate is suffering from a monstrous Arctic blast. He came home to face a torrent of well-deserved criticism.

But … he also has his pals on the far right. One of them is right-wing gasbag Ben Shapiro, who wondered what a senator could do. Should he fire up a blowtorch and start thawing frozen plumbing? Shapiro asked.

What a moronic notion.

Senators can do plenty. They have staffs who do something called “constituent service.” They can talk directly to FEMA officials, to their fellow senator, to members of Congress, to mayors, county judges, to utility bosses asking them what they need. He can show up at warming shelters to lend a good word of encouragement. He can demonstrate empathy, compassion and concern.

Cruz abandoned his post. Where I come from that is called “dereliction of duty.”

‘Distraction,’ Sen. Cruz?

Ted Cruz is back home in Houston.

It seems that the Republican U.S. senator heard the hollering and got back quickly from his vacation in Cancun. His reaction to the media is disgraceful.

He called it “unfortunate” that the trip has become such a “distraction.” What a joke from a serious jerk.

Cruz jetted off to the Mexican resort while his constituents in Texas — and that includes my family and me — are suffering from the monstrous winter storm that paralyzed the state’s utility systems.

Instead of staying at his post, making sure the federal government could deliver relief for Texans, Cruz decided to fly away because he wanted to be a “good dad” for his daughters who wanted him to accompany them on a family vacation.

Good grief! He should have just told his children: Kids, I am sorry I cannot join you but I have a serious job to do and I need to stay home and make sure our state’s residents don’t suffer any longer from the storm. Go have a great time and I’ll see you and your Mom when you get home.

But, no-o-o-o-o! He didn’t say that. He chose instead to desert his post while the state is suffering.

This guy makes me sick.

Get back to work, Ted

OK, I just have to get something off my chest.

Ted Cruz is a worm, a snake, a weasel. The U.S. senator from Texas now has come clean on a report that he flew off to Mexico while the state he represents is undergoing a historic natural weather trauma.

He said today he flew with his daughters to Cancun because he wanted to “be a good dad.” He said his family in Houston has suffered, too, losing power and water right along with the rest of the state.

His children wanted to go on vacation with friends, as their school is shut down.

Look, Sen. Cruz, you get paid a six-figure salary to be on the job when your state needs you. I believe we need our senators and our members of Congress on the job imploring the federal government for help. I understand Cruz and Sen. John Cornyn have communicated with the White House on what they need and Cruz — who said he would return today to Texas — vowed to work hard.

He damn well better get back to work.

The Cruz Missile hasn’t exactly distinguished himself lately, helping lead a Senate challenge of the 2020 presidential election results and then voting to acquit a disgraced — and twice-impeached — former president after watching him incite a riotous mob to storm the Capitol Building.

Stay on the job, Sen. Cruz, and earn that salary we’re paying you.

Take off the mask, Ted

What you see with this brief blog post is a picture of U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz waiting to board an airplane.

It’s reported the junior Republican senator has jetted off with his family to Cancun, Mexico. Why is this a big deal? Because the state he represents — that would be Texas — is enduring the effects of a historic winter storm.

Millions of Texans are affected adversely by the storm. Pipes have frozen; the power has gone out; local water supply has been compromised; politicians are sniping at each other over who’s to blame; Texans are angry, miserable, hurting.

Cruz now reportedly is basking in the sun down yonder in Mexico while his state is suffering grievously.

If I were Ted Cruz — and I thank God I am not — I would have issued a press release to deny that the picture is me and that I am not vacationing in Cancun … were that the case.

His silence regarding this matter speaks volumes. Ted Cruz is shirking his duty.

Why acquit this potential foe?

If there are any major villains among the cast of U.S. Senate Republicans willing to acquit Donald John Trump on charges that he incited that hideous riot on Jan. 6, they likely are Sens. Ted Cruz of Texas and Josh Hawley of Missouri.

Think about this little bit of political dynamism, if you will.

Both of these men seem to care little about the Senate. They both want to be president of the United States. Cruz ran for the big office in 2016, only to lose to the guy he called a “sniveling coward,” a “narcissist the likes of which we haven’t seen,” a “pathological liar” and an “amoral” individual. Hawley also appears to have his eyes on the prize beyond the Senate.

So, here’s the quandary they face. How do they vote to acquit someone and, therefore, enable him to possibly enter the 2024 presidential race having been freed of the charges leveled against him by the House impeachment? Trump might be seen in some circles as a major obstacle to anyone among the GOP ranks of pretenders seeking to ascend to the presidency.

Why not, then, vote to convict and lobby your other colleagues to do the same? Keep the Trump monster caged up by voting to ban him from ever seeking federal public office again.

Oh, wait! I almost forgot something. Doing all of that would anger the Trumpkin Corps of voters who remain loyal to the former Insurrectionist in Chief.

Whatever. I am one American voter/patriot who believes Donald Trump’s future as a political candidate is, shall we say … toast! No matter what the Senate decides at the end of this trial.

Sighing in relief … sort of

A half-hearted sigh of relief is in order.

While most of the nation reels from the publicity surrounding the far right wing nut jobs who are dominating some of our news cycles, I am relieved to realize that my member of Congress — the young man who represents my family and me in Collin County, Texas — is not among the wackos.

Rep. Van Taylor is a Republican from Plano who is serving his second term. He succeeded a legend in these parts, the late GOP U.S. Rep. Sam Johnson, a former Vietnam War prisoner and a longtime Republican stalwart.

Taylor, too, is a veteran. He served as a Marine Corps officer in Iraq. He is a patriot who never, ever — in my humble view — subscribe to the disgraceful ideology ascribed to QAnon adherents who represent other congressional districts.

And for that I am grateful.

Now, having lauded my congressman, I want to offer just a few brief words of condemnation to our state’s junior U.S. senator, Ted Cruz.

The Cruz Missile dishonored the state and the office he occupies by insisting on an audit of the 2020 presidential election. He still to this very day hasn’t even had the decency to refer to President Biden by name and title, which he acquired in a free, fair and totally secure election.

Cruz has swallowed the Big Lie served up by the former president of the United States, and he makes me ashamed that he represents my interests in the Senate.

So, we have the good and the not so good. I will cling to the belief that Rep. Van Taylor will continue to adhere to honest and well-considered principle. I might disagree with him most of the time. I honor the fealty he pays to the U.S. Constitution and to the oath he took to defend and protect it.

Sens. Cruz, Hawley earn their scorn

U.S. Sens. Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley try to defend their objection to certifying Joe Biden’s election as president by declaring they were doing the bidding of those who question the integrity of the election.

They did the bidding of the majority of Republicans who question it. Why did they disbelieve that President Biden won the election fairly? Because the guy Biden beat, Donald Trump, filled their numb skulls with the lie about the existence of “widespread voter fraud.”

Cruz and Hawley are two of the numbest skulls in the Senate. That is difficult for me to state because Cruz is a Harvard Law graduate, while Hawley got his law degree from Stanford. These men are not stupid. They are infected with the desire to become president someday. Cruz sought the highest office in 2016, but lost the Republican nomination to Donald Trump.

Hawley, from Missouri, got elected in 2018, but he’s already casting his gaze at the White House.

Will they resign, which some of their colleagues are demanding? Cruz is getting lots of media heat, with three major Texas newspapers calling for him to quit: the El Paso Times, the San Antonio Express-News and his hometown Houston Chronicle.

Sad to say, but I don’t expect either of them to pack it in. They will continue to rouse the rabbles in the Senate and will continue to obstruct President Biden’s agenda.

They both should quit. They have shamed themselves and the legislative body where they serve. Cruz and Hawley’s objection to Joe Biden’s election was based solely on a lie. They knew it was a lie when they yapped and yammered about voter fraud. That makes them unfit to represent their respective states and unfit to act on laws that affect all Americans.

Ted Cruz is going where, doing what? The junior U.S. senator from Texas is going to attend Joe Biden’s inauguration as the 46th president of the United States?

Glory be! Shut my mouth! Ruffle my hair and call me Frankie!

This comes after the Republican flamethrower fought against certifying Biden’s election as president, fomenting the Big Lie about voter fraud that didn’t exist in the 2020 presidential election.

Cruz has been vilified, pilloried and pounded … with good reason for the obstructionist tactics he employed while trying to block the Senate’s vote to ratify the Electoral College vote.

The Texas Tribune reported: “Millions of Americans who have peacefully expressed their deep concerns regarding election integrity deserve to have their voices heard,” Cruz said in a statement after the Capitol siege. “I very much wish Congress had not set aside these concerns, but I respect the position each of my colleagues took. Debate in the two houses of Congress is the proper way to resolve our political differences, not through violent attacks.”

This news actually leaves me with mixed feelings. I detested what Cruz did to sour the mood over Biden’s election, which was all done above board, fair and square … and totally secure.

I’m glad he’ll attend the inauguration of the clear and decisive winner of a presidential election. It’s the very least he can do as a sitting U.S. senator, even one from the opposing party.

Cruz could make it better were he to admit he erred in contesting the most secure election in the nation’s history.

Will he do that? I don’t think so, either.

By all means, Sen. Cruz … resign!

An editor of mine used to say that “when one person calls you an ass, you blow it off; when many of them say so, then you need to start shopping for a feedbag.”

A lot of Americans these days are calling for the resignations of U.S. Sens. Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley. Why? Because they led the Senate’s effort to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election. They both will couch their intentions behind merely seeking to “ensure the integrity” of the electoral process.

That is a pile of steaming bullsh**. They intended to somehow restore Donald Trump’s political fortunes and return him for a second term as president. Never mind that a majority of Americans endorsed Joe Biden as the next president or that the elections in each of our 50 states and the District of Columbia were conducted under the tightest security in history.

Yeah, these two clowns need to quit. They won’t go anywhere. At least not until someone finds something incriminating about them and can prove it … which is more than Cruz, Hawley and the other vote fraud conspiracy theorists were able to do with their phony allegations of “widespread” corruption of the electoral process.

Both of these nimrods won’t stand for re-election until 2024. They both have earned censure in the Senate, as do  the House members who joined them in that moronic effort to subvert our democratic process. Cruz, the Texas Republican, and Hawley, the GOP’er from Missouri, need to be stripped of their committee assignments and sent to the back of the Senate chamber.

Will any of that happen? Oh, probably not. However, enough Americans are calling them asses for what they tried to pull off that they surely have earned the scorn they are receiving.
