Kinzinger calls out Trump lies

Adam Kinzinger’s lame-duck status in the U.S. House of Representatives gives him a shield against the attacks that are sure to come at him from Donald Trump and his cabal of cultists.

Why would they attack the Illinois Republican lawmaker? Because he is calling Trump out for what he is: a liar.

Kinzinger is one of two GOP members of a House select committee examining the 1/6 insurrection. He said recently he wouldn’t run for re-election in 2022. So he is in his final term in the House. That means Trump cannot do him any political harm.

Trump recently blasted the 1/6 committee, declaring it is intent on “smearing him.” Kinzinger is having none of it. Nor should he.

If only other Republicans in Congress would grow the stones they shouldn’t have to grow simply to speak the truth about the former Liar in Chief, who is trying to prevent the select committee from obtaining White House documents it needs to get to the truth behind the 1/6 insurrection.

Let us keep in mind: Donald Trump fomented that riot.

Thus, the House panel needs to know the truth behind what happened on 1/6.

Adam Kinzinger is speaking the truth by calling out Trump’s lies.

Rapprochement? Really?

Say it’s so. Then again, it’s an impossibility, given what these two men have said to and about each other for, oh, the past two or three years.

There was President Biden offering a word of praise for his immediate predecessor, Donald J. Trump, for declaring he had taken the COVID booster shot and for the speed of the development of the vaccine.

Then came word from Trump that he was “surprised” and “pleased” that his successor would give him a shout out. Trump then said Biden’s kindness makes it difficult for Trump to speak critically of the president.

Hmm. Now, we all know that the two men aren’t likely to call a halt to the name-calling, the insults, the epithets, the nastiness that has brewed between them. I mean, Trump still preaches The Big Lie about the 2020 election being stolen by non-existent widespread voter fraud. All of that surely must sting Joe Biden, given the historic nature of his victory and the immense voter turnout that elected him the 46th president of the United States.

There is no rapprochement likely. Then again, stranger events have occurred.

POTUS praises ex-POTUS

President Biden today did something worthy of a word of praise, as it shows a largeness of spirit that too often was missing from his immediate predecessor.

Biden today offered a word of praise to Donald J. Trump for getting a booster shot — and admitting to it — and for the development of the vaccines that are protecting 200 million or so Americans from the killer COVID-19 virus and its assorted variants.

Imagine the former POTUS doing such a thing. I know. It wouldn’t happen. It won’t happen.

Biden’s magnanimous spirit comes in the heat of a contentious political climate. His immediate predecessor keeps spewing The Big Lie about “rampant voter fraud” in the 2020 election and yet the man who defeated him in that election found a moment today to toss a bouquet at the former POTUS.

It might that President Biden has an ulterior motive. He well could be appealing to that base of Trump cultists who refuse to get vaccinated. It might be that he is seeking to soften their foolish resistance to the vaccine. Whatever it takes … you know?

Go after the man in charge, too!

Let’s not pussyfoot around this matter for a moment longer: It is time for the House committee looking at the 1/6 riot/insurrection to determine whether to seek criminal charges against the man who incited all of it.

That would be Donald J. Trump, who at that moment was still occupying the office of president of the United States. For the record, I won’t use the term “serving as president,” because he never had “service” in mind from the moment he took the oath of office.

Lame-duck U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger of Illinois, one of two Republicans serving on the House select panel, has broached the notion of Trump facing criminal charges. He said over the weekend that the committee would do well to ponder that possibility as it plods along in search of witnesses, documents and testimony into what transpired on 1/6.

There have been stunning and shocking emails released in recent days that reveal what Trump knew as the riot was unfolding and what he failed to do to stop it. The president had the singular authority to call off the rioters. He heard from a variety of individuals — starting with his own son, Don Jr. — who implored him, begged him in fact, to order the riotous mob to cease and desist.

Trump did nothing. Not a damn thing! And so, what was the result of his refusal to end the siege? Five people died in the melee. Dozens more were hurt. Millions of dollars of damage was inflicted on the Capitol Building.

Who was responsible for it? The guy who stood on the Ellipse earlier in the day and exhorted the already-angry mobsters to “take back the government.” They did what they were told to do by their cult leader. They are heard on audio recordings telling the Capitol cops they were acting on Trump’s orders.

Is there criminal culpability from the man at the top of the chain of command? Looks like it to me.

Trump gets booed for … being vaccinated? Huh?

Can it really be that Donald J. Trump’s political base is populated by utter morons, people who actually boo their hero when he tells ’em he received a booster shot to fend off the COVID virus?

Yep, looks like it’s so.

Trump ventured to downtown Dallas on Sunday, along with Bill O’Reilly. They staged some sort of rally at the American Airlines Center. The crowd reportedly was fairly sparse. Trump, though, revealed while answering a question from O’Reilly that he received a booster shot in addition to his vaccination.

Many in the crowd booed their hero!

What the … ?

O’Reilly sought to dismiss the boo birds as a small portion of the gathering at the AAC. Still, it makes me wonder about these individuals. Oh, well. They do seem to mirror the mindlessness of their cult leader.

No more denials, please, about 1/6

It is becoming abundantly clear that what happened on 1/6 was a direct, full- frontal assault on our cherished democracy.

It was not, as more than a few GOP members of Congress have suggested, “a peaceful protest” over the results of the 2020 presidential election.

Thus, the sooner that the House select committee examining the 1/6 insurrection can complete its work, the sooner that opponents of those members of Congress can assemble their campaign strategies to attack them for their foolish trash-talk.

Before you attack me for reminding of the obvious — that no one has been charged formally with an “insurrection” — I want to stipulate that I know what the criminal defendants have been accused of committing. It runs the range of criminal charges: aggravated assault, disorderly conduct, vandalism.

There well might be insurrection charges forthcoming. I would most assuredly support such an allegation being leveled.

What needs to happen foremost, though, is for the individuals at the top of the government in that moment to face criminal prosecution, too. That includes the man who was the POTUS on 1/6, Donald J. Trump.

I cannot predict what the House panel will decide. However, I can offer a request, or call it a suggestion.

Which is that Donald Trump’s rhetoric, spewed on the Ellipse on the morning of 1/6, incited the mob to attack Capitol Hill and the men and women inside who were doing their job, which was to certify the 2020 presidential election results.

There must be some accountability for that action.

Rep. Jordan turns too quiet

Jim Jordan owns arguably the loudest mouth in the U.S. House of Representatives.

The Ohio Republican usually is unafraid to spout whatever lies pops into his vacuous noggin. The lies he spews usually involve Donald J. Trump and the so-called “phony” investigations into the myriad allegations often attached to the former POTUS.

Suddenly, though, the blowhard/liar/alleged traitor has fallen quiet. He won’t admit to sending Trump a message imploring him to call off the 1/6 rioters. But he did! He sent the POTUS a message that sought to get him to put a stop to the riot.

Why won’t Jordan tell us what he did? I think I know. Because it flies directly counter to the defense he has mounted on Trump’s behalf as evidence mounted in the waning days of his administration about the violence he provoked on the day of the Capitol Hill riot.

I have written already about the Republican cowards who populate the GOP caucus in Congress.

I have concluded that Jim Jordan is the king of the cowards.

Why the delay and obstruction?

 (AP Photo/Jeffrey Phelps)

This has to rank, in my mind at least, as one of the great political mysteries in recent U.S. history.

Donald J. Trump keeps insisting he did nothing wrong while serving as POTUS for four years. He made a “perfect” phone call to the Ukrainian president asking for help in finding dirt on then-former VP Joe Biden and his son, Hunter. He insists he didn’t incite violence on 1/6, that he called for “peaceful” protest.

And yet …

This clown is engaging in the mother of stalling tactics. His minions won’t answer congressional subpoenas. Trump refuses to release his tax returns. He stalls, blocks, obfuscates. He is trying to run out the clock until the midterm election when, he hopes, Republicans get control of Congress.

Why this tactic if there is nothing to hide? If there is nothing see? If there was nothing wrong with the way he conducted himself in office?

Man, someone has to explain this one to me.

Trump to take office … in 2025?

I just read an article that said two things.

One is that Donald Trump is now the favorite to take office as POTUS in January 2025.

The other thing is that we should be “very afraid.”

I am “very afraid” … but only if the first thing happens. I do not believe it will occur.

Tim Miller wrote the article for The Bulwark. Miller is a Republican strategist. He also is a vehement anti-Trumpster. He said Trump is the “odds-on favorite” to win the presidency.

Oh … my … word.

Donald Trump Is Now the Odds-On Favorite to Be President in 2025 – The Bulwark

I just attached a link to The Bulwark article. Look at it for yourself. Please do look at it. Then decide whether you believe a twice-impeached, disgraced con man will actually be able to persuade enough voters to send him back to the White House.

Good grief …

187 minutes of hell …

It took Donald J. Trump more than three hours after the rioters stormed the Capitol Building — at his urging — to more or less call them off.

The then-POTUS did so while expressing his “love” for them and while extolling that they are “special people.”

Key aides were imploring Trump to call off the rioters on 1/6. He resisted. He didn’t do or say a single damn thing to stave off the rioters. Then came that ghastly “we love you” plea 187 minutes after it began to men and women who had defecated on the floor of the Senate, beaten through windows, injured several Capitol Police officers.

They were chanting their desire to “Hang Mike Pence!” and went looking for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi by yelling “Nancy … where are you?”

Unbelievable. Un-bleeping-believable!

But it happened. We know it now through some extraordinary reporting by the Washington Post.

To think there remains a segment of our nation’s citizenry who buy into the crap peddled by the former Liar in Chief.

God help us.
