GOP blowhards lead the chorus

Gosh, who could have seen this coming? Anyone? Sure!

Three Republicans who are trying to position themselves as their party’s 2024 presidential nominee are leading the opposition chorus to President Biden’s Cabinet appointments.

They are Sens. Ted Cruz of Texas, Tom Cotton of Arkansas and Josh Hawley of Missouri. They have voted against every one of Biden’s Cabinet choices, except two. They are seeking to elbow past each other to the front rank of the next presidential primary season.

My particular interest, of course, is in Cruz, the junior senator from the state where I live. I detest his politics, his general demeanor, his loudmouth quality, his blatant self-promotion. He and Hawley stood front and center in challenging the 2020 presidential election results, declaring some unfounded fear of “widespread vote fraud.”

They disgraced themselves and  the offices to which they were elected.

And I cannot neglect to mention Cruz’s laughable attempted vacation Cancun, Mexico, while the state he represented was battling the frigid February snow and ice storm, the one that knocked electricity out for millions of Texans. He high-tailed it back to Texas when his travel plans were revealed.

So, it’s no surprise that these presidential pretenders are leading some sort of amen chorus in opposition to President Biden’s choices to run the executive branch of government.

All of ’em make me want to hurl.

Oh, but in the world is going to happen to these clowns if the former Imbecile in Chief, Donald Trump, decides to run? Stay tuned to see how this clown show plays out.

President Biden’s re-election campaign — if it happens — has become a talking point among the political class.

A reporter asked Biden at his press conference the other day whether he plans to seek a second term — and whether he expects to run against Donald Trump in 2024.

Sheesh, man! Joe Biden is 78 years old. He is the oldest man ever elected to the presidency. He said in response to the reporter’s question that he believes strongly in “fate,” which I think might be his way of acknowledging his own mortality. I do not wish that for the president, but, well … you know it might go.

The chatter now involves what a Biden re-election bid does to the Democratic and Republican primary fields.

Let’s see. Donald Trump announced on his first day in office he would seek re-election. Democrats poured onto the primary field in massive numbers; the total hit, what, 22 before they started dropping out. The Hill newspaper thinks a Biden re-election effort could stifle the GOP primary field in 2024, unless the Biden presidency craters between now and then.

I am not going to spend a lot of time wondering or worrying about President Biden’s political future. The political present — a pandemic, immigration, climate change, voting rights — is enough of a challenge for any president.

I cannot possibly be the only person who thought this, but I’ll offer this brief observation anyway.

Donald Trump refuses to concede the election to President-elect Joe Biden, saying the election is “far from over.” He is filing lawsuits and challenging the results of an election that shows Biden leading with 5 million more ballots and a substantial Electoral College majority.

Got that? Now, then there’s this:

Donald Trump has told advisers and others close to him that he is considering whether to run for president in 2024.

When I heard that I went, huh? What? Eh? Which is it?

If he’s thinking about running in 2024, isn’t that a tacit admission that he lost the 2020 contest?

Therefore, what we are seeing from Donald Trump and his team is an incoherent, unhinged and baseless legal “strategy” that pretends to seek proof that the election was “rigged,” that it is “corrupt” and that millions of voters cast ballots “illegally.”

That well might sum up the presidency of Donald John Trump Sr. to the letter.
