Why don&#8217;t the media, politicians and peanut-gallery observers stop using the term &#8220;boots on the ground&#8221; to describe what they really desire in prosecuting this war against terrorists.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"Rk7hkwAy06\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/defense\/234250-us-boots-needed-to-defeat-isis-boehner-says\/\">US boots needed to defeat ISIS, Boehner says<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" title=\"&#8220;US boots needed to defeat ISIS, Boehner says&#8221; &#8212; The Hill\" src=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/defense\/234250-us-boots-needed-to-defeat-isis-boehner-says\/embed\/#?secret=9TKBSuk8sB#?secret=Rk7hkwAy06\" data-secret=\"Rk7hkwAy06\" width=\"474\" height=\"267\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>House Speaker John Boehner today used the &#8220;boots&#8221; terminology to suggest he wants to send young Americans back onto the battlefield in Iraq and to deploy them to Syria.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSomebody\u2019s boots have to be on the ground,\u201d Boehner said in a live interview on CBS\u2019s \u201cFace the Nation.\u201d \u201cWe have some 3,000 boots on the ground today. Let\u2019s not suggest that we don\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The media have fallen into that trap as well, preferring to\u00a0sanitize what&#8217;s really at stake. We aren&#8217;t talking about footwear, folks; we&#8217;re talking instead about the human feet that will fill it.<\/p>\n<p>It reminds me a bit of how the media &#8212; and I&#8217;ll include the newspaper where I used to work, the Amarillo Globe-News &#8212; use the term &#8220;harvest&#8221; to describe the <em>killing<\/em> of wild animal by hunters.<\/p>\n<p>If we&#8217;re going to suggest that we send young Americans back into battle, then say it: It is time to redeploy American men and women, return them to the fight, put these young Americans in harm&#8217;s way.<\/p>\n<p><em>Boots on the ground?<\/em> Give me a break.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"twitter-share\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/intent\/tweet?via=jkanelis\" class=\"twitter-share-button\">Tweet<\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Critics of President Obama have taken to challenging his use of language, such as his declining to use the term &#8220;Islamic terrorist&#8221; to refer to the enemy with whom we are at war.
