But behind the scenes, the West Texas oilman is <a href=\"https:\/\/na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Famarillomatters.us17.list-manage.com%2Ftrack%2Fclick%3Fu%3D009ae0cc58ef19fcb384378ea%26id%3D79b4471134%26e%3Dd859859ce5&amp;data=05%7C02%7C%7C5393516dabb945f9d74e08dc315d882e%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C638439524998203159%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&amp;sdata=t5NJRkeY9MHtqMmhXxjlo2GBolFzYicPOEvto6f%2Fluo%3D&amp;reserved=0\">lavishly financing<\/a> what he regards as a holy war against public education, renewable energy, and non-Christians.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Wow! I know a little bit about the work Dunn has done and the havoc he has brought to West Texas politicians and politics over the years. He runs Empower Texans, a far-right-wing political action committee that takes aim at GOP officeholders. Former state Sen. Kel Seliger of Amarillo was a favorite target of Dunn&#8217;s group, drawing the unvarnished wrath of Seliger.<\/p>\n<p>The point I want to make, though, is that attacks on non-Christian candidates violates an article in the Constitution that was drafted and ratified by our nation&#8217;s founding fathers.<\/p>\n<p>Article VI concludes with this: <em>&#8221; &#8230; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The founders could not possibly be clearer than what they declared in the late 18th century when they cobbled together our nation&#8217;s governing framework.<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"twitter-share\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/intent\/tweet?via=jkanelis\" class=\"twitter-share-button\">Tweet<\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A weekly newsletter published by a gentleman in Amarillo makes an astonishing assertion about whom he believes to be the &#8220;most powerful figure&#8221; in Texas.
