{"id":43100,"date":"2020-06-11T14:23:08","date_gmt":"2020-06-11T14:23:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/highplainsblogger.com\/?p=43100"},"modified":"2020-06-11T14:23:08","modified_gmt":"2020-06-11T14:23:08","slug":"flag-means-more-than-heritage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/highplainsblogger.com\/?p=43100","title":{"rendered":"Flag means more than &#8216;heritage&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"twitter-share\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/intent\/tweet?hashtags=StarsandBars%20%23Confederateflag%20%23NASCAR&#038;via=jkanelis\" class=\"twitter-share-button\">Tweet<\/a><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/highplainsblogger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/battle-flag.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-11182\" src=\"https:\/\/highplainsblogger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/battle-flag.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"275\" height=\"183\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I am so glad that NASCAR has decided to strike down the Confederate flag, banning it from being displayed at its events.<\/p>\n<p>My Southern friends contend the flag symbolizes their &#8220;heritage.&#8221; Here&#8217;s my take on it.<\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;heritage&#8221; includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>States rights<\/em>. Sure it does. The states rights issue precipitated the Civil War, the bloodiest conflict in our nation&#8217;s history. The Confederate States of America started that war so that they could preserve states rights to own slaves, to put Americans in bondage.<\/li>\n<li><em>Racial hatred<\/em>. That, too. It is no mystery why the Confederate flag is seen flying at Ku Klux Klan rallies. The hate group that used to lynch African-Americans flies the Stars and Bars at its rallies to this day as a statement of solidarity with what the flag represents to them. In the KKK&#8217;s eyes, the Stars and Bars symbolizes their desire to continue their hatred against citizens who happen to be of African descent.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>NASCAR shouldn&#8217;t be condemned necessarily for waiting so long to do the right thing. Instead, I merely will salute the racing governing body for doing it &#8230; period.<\/p>\n<p>The organization that was born in the South but which seeks to expand its fan base far beyond its Southern base has lined up on the right side of history.<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"twitter-share\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/intent\/tweet?hashtags=StarsandBars%20%23Confederateflag%20%23NASCAR&#038;via=jkanelis\" class=\"twitter-share-button\">Tweet<\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I am so glad that NASCAR has decided to strike down the Confederate flag, banning it from being displayed at its events.
