{"id":41934,"date":"2020-03-29T01:07:48","date_gmt":"2020-03-29T01:07:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/highplainsblogger.com\/?p=41934"},"modified":"2020-03-29T01:07:48","modified_gmt":"2020-03-29T01:07:48","slug":"texas-ag-gun-shops-are-an-essential-business-yikes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/highplainsblogger.com\/?p=41934","title":{"rendered":"Texas AG: Gun shops are an &#8216;essential&#8217; business &#8230; yikes!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"twitter-share\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/intent\/tweet?hashtags=gunshops%20%23MAGA%20%23pandemic%20%23coronavirus%20%23KenPaxton%20%23TexasAG&#038;via=jkanelis\" class=\"twitter-share-button\">Tweet<\/a><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/highplainsblogger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/guns.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-41935\" src=\"https:\/\/highplainsblogger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/guns-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/highplainsblogger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/guns-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/highplainsblogger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/guns.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I suppose you can chalk this one up as an <em>&#8220;only in Texas&#8221;<\/em> kind of thing.<\/p>\n<p>Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has determined that gun shops are an &#8220;essential business&#8221; and therefore can remain open while other businesses are being shuttered during the coronavirus pandemic.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/state-watch\/490013-texas-ag-says-gun-stores-are-essential-can-remain-open-amid-pandemic\">There is something kind of weird<\/a> about Paxton&#8217;s decision, which countermands a statement issued by the mayor of Lubbock, who determined that gun shops in the West Texas city are &#8220;non-essential&#8221; and should close during this time of crisis.<\/p>\n<p>How do we define essential? The way I define the term, that would include businesses that sell food, medicine, various household cleaning supplies.<\/p>\n<p>But \u2026 guns? Seriously? Ken Paxton thinks that guns count as something Texans need to purchase.<\/p>\n<p>Texas Gov. Greg Abbott hasn&#8217;t issued a stay-at-home order for all Texans. He has left that decision up to local governments, some of which have been proactive; others have been, well, not so much.<\/p>\n<p>State Rep. Dustin Burrows, a Lubbock Republican, asked Paxton for a ruling after the mayor made his determination. I guess Burrows got what he sought.<\/p>\n<p>I just find Paxton&#8217;s decision to be peculiar \u2026 although not the least bit surprising. Gotta have them guns at the ready, right?
