{"id":344,"date":"2013-04-14T02:19:00","date_gmt":"2013-04-14T02:19:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/highplainsblogger.wordpress.com\/2013\/04\/14\/sign-says-it-all"},"modified":"2013-04-14T02:19:00","modified_gmt":"2013-04-14T02:19:00","slug":"sign-says-it-all","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/highplainsblogger.com\/?p=344","title":{"rendered":"Sign says it all"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"twitter-share\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/intent\/tweet?via=jkanelis\" class=\"twitter-share-button\">Tweet<\/a><\/div>\n<p>One of my fondest wishes \u2013 and I\u2019ve got a few of them \u2013 is for all the morons who think they can text while driving a motor vehicle would see the message being flashed on those Amber Alert electronic signs next to Amarillo\u2019s two stretches of interstate highway.<\/p>\n<p>The message says: <em>You talk, you text, you crash<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>They\u2019re flashing constantly to motorists as they whiz by along Interstates 40 and 27. <\/p>\n<p>Amarillo has established a no-talking-while-driving ordinance. The Texas Legislature has been considering a statewide ban on texting while driving; I am not sure where that one stands at the moment.<\/p>\n<p>I mention all this knowing full well too many motorists are ignoring the city\u2019s prohibition against talking on handheld cellphones while they are driving, say, their Suburban Assault Vehicles through heavy traffic, often with kids in the back seat. <\/p>\n<p>And, no, just seeing those signs isn\u2019t going to stop the idiots from continuing that highly hazardous practice. <\/p>\n<p>Idiots, by definition, pay no attention to these warnings \u2013 which is why they\u2019re idiots.<\/p>\n<p>Have I mentioned that they\u2019re morons, too?<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"http:\/\/fastlane.dot.gov\/2011\/04\/texas-launches-talk-text-crash-campaign-to-encourage-safer-driving.html\" href=\"http:\/\/fastlane.dot.gov\/2011\/04\/texas-launches-talk-text-crash-campaign-to-encourage-safer-driving.html\">http:\/\/fastlane.dot.gov\/2011\/04\/texas-launches-talk-text-crash-campaign-to-encourage-safer-driving.html<\/a><\/p>\n<p>April is National Distracted While Driving Month and the signs, courtesy of the Texas Department of Transportation, will be flashing the message for the entire month.<\/p>\n<p>If only they would do some good.<\/p>\n<p>Sigh \u2026<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"twitter-share\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/intent\/tweet?via=jkanelis\" class=\"twitter-share-button\">Tweet<\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of my fondest wishes \u2013 and I\u2019ve got a few of them \u2013 is for all the morons who think they can text while driving a motor vehicle would see the message being flashed on those Amber Alert electronic signs next to Amarillo\u2019s two stretches of interstate highway.
