{"id":32820,"date":"2018-10-14T16:14:22","date_gmt":"2018-10-14T16:14:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/highplainsblogger.com\/?p=32820"},"modified":"2018-10-14T16:16:12","modified_gmt":"2018-10-14T16:16:12","slug":"dont-go-low-as-the-other-guys-do","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/highplainsblogger.com\/?p=32820","title":{"rendered":"Don&#8217;t go low &#8230; as the other guys do"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"twitter-share\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/intent\/tweet?via=jkanelis\" class=\"twitter-share-button\">Tweet<\/a><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">I\u2019m going to stand with Beto O\u2019Rourke and his belief that civility should return to our public discourse.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">Speaking to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/opinion\/commentary\/2018\/10\/13\/beto-orourke-clinton-holder-incivility-not\">Dallas Morning News editorial boar<\/a>d, O\u2019Rourke \u2013 the Democratic candidate for U.S. senator \u2013 said he disagrees with former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder\u2019s belief that \u201cwhen they go low, we kick them.\u201d That\u2019s not who O\u2019Rourke is, he told the DMN.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">I recently chided a Republican candidate for governor in Pennsylvania for declaring his intention to \u201cstomp all over\u201d the Democratic governor\u2019s face with \u201cgolf spikes.\u201d Scott Wagner said he was peaking metaphorically against Gov. Tom Wolf. Still, the language is harsh, crude and unacceptable. Wagner later apologized for using such harsh rhetoric.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">Holder\u2019s comments about \u201ckicking\u201d the folks on the other side also are unacceptable, although not as graphic as the bellowing assertion that Wagner made.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">As for O\u2019Rourke, he is showing remarkable restraint as he campaigns against Sen. Ted Cruz in this year\u2019s Senate race midterm election. I want to applaud him for seeking to remain true to his belief that civility is better for the cause of public discourse \u2013 and for the nation \u2013 than the angry rhetoric that we\u2019ve been hearing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>I still think former first lady Michelle Obama&#8217;s advice is the best: When they go low, we go high.<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"twitter-share\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/intent\/tweet?via=jkanelis\" class=\"twitter-share-button\">Tweet<\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019m going to stand with Beto O\u2019Rourke and his belief that civility should return to our public discourse.
