The Congressional Budget Office says President Obama\u2019s budget would boost the deficit to that total and would bump it to $615 billion in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>So what\u2019s the big deal here?<\/p>\n<p>The deficits have been running a <em>trillion<\/em> bucks-plus annually for the past several years. The deficit is now \u201cdown\u201d to a \u201cmere\u201d $600 billion and change. And it\u2019s projected to slide even farther in the years just ahead.<\/p>\n<p>Why isn\u2019t there any applause, especially from congressional conservatives who keep yammering about the deficit? They gripe that Barack Obama\u2019s economic and tax policies are spending us into oblivion. With the deficit now reduced by an estimated <em>$400 billion<\/em> annually from where it was, isn\u2019t that good news?<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m aware, certainly, of the sequestration that\u2019s kicked in. The mandatory budget cuts surely will have their impact.
