Bush is speaking out more forcefully about one of the men who has succeeded him as president of the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Will the object of President Bush&#8217;s critique, Donald John Trump, listen to what No. 43 has to say? I rather doubt it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.msn.com\/en-us\/news\/politics\/george-w-bush-breaks-his-silence-on-the-direction-of-the-trump-presidency-%E2%80%98i-don%E2%80%99t-like-the-racism-and-name-calling%E2%80%99\/ar-AAnCeLO?li=BBmkt5R&amp;ocid=spartandhp\">Still, the message needs to be delivered. <\/a>And the former president is doing so in a measured, but unambiguous manner.<\/p>\n<p>Bush spoke with People magazine about his post-presidential hobby, painting, and also about Trump and the new president&#8217;s rocky first month in office.<\/p>\n<p>Despite his critique of Trump, Bush remains an optimist. According to People: Bush called the political climate in Trump\u2019s Washington \u201cpretty ugly\u201d (\u201cI\u2019m not going back nowhere!\u201d he added for emphasis), but said he isn\u2019t feeling anxious about the direction of the country. \u201cNot really. I\u2019m optimistic about where we\u2019ll end up. \u2026 We\u2019ve been through these periods before and we\u2019ve always had a way to come out of it. I\u2019m more optimistic than some.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The ex-president was adamant about refraining from criticizing his immediate successor, Barack Obama. Not so, apparently, with <em>Obama&#8217;s<\/em> immediate successor.<\/p>\n<p>I want to share in President Bush&#8217;s optimism. Sadly, I cannot.<\/p>\n<p>However, I do share Bush&#8217;s view of what he&#8217;s heard coming from the nation&#8217;s capital in this still-new Trump era: \u201cI don\u2019t like the racism and I don\u2019t like the name-calling and I don\u2019t like the people feeling alienated,\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If only Donald Trump would listen.
