I\u2019m beginning to think I might become \u2013 to borrow a Marine Corps recruitment phrase \u2013 \u201cone of the few, the proud\u201d to have flown on Boeing\u2019s 787 Dreamliner.<\/p>\n

If the plane keeps having many more problems, air carriers just might ground the bird for keeps.<\/p>\n

Another Dreamliner flight was delayed in Tokyo because of problems with the power that runs the air conditioning on the aircraft.<\/p>\n

It was the fourth incident in 10 days. Well, I\u2019m telling you that the plane has experienced even more trouble than that.<\/p>\n

On June 7, I was set to board a United Airlines Dreamliner at Houston\u2019s George Bush Intercontinental Airport. All the passengers were seated, the pilot came on to announce our impending departure \u2013 only to come back on later and tell us we had to get off the plane because of \u201cmechanical issues.\u201d <\/p>\n

In other words, the plane wouldn\u2019t start.<\/p>\n

I gathered my gear, got off the bird and trudged down the concourse to another gate where \u2013 to my surprise \u2013 another Dreamliner awaited. We boarded the plane and the pilot informed us over the intercom that the aircraft was fit to travel and was \u201cready to go. No problems.\u201d<\/p>\n

We took off and the flight to Denver was smooth and glass.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll say this about the Dreamliner: It\u2019s a very nice aircraft on which to sit for a couple of hours, even in Economy Class. It\u2019s spacious, with plenty of leg room. It\u2019s quiet. The in-flight amenities \u2013 such as the video selections \u2013 are appealing.<\/p>\n

I just worry that the shiny new aircraft is going to keep breaking down.<\/p>\n

To borrow another phrase from a former U.S. president: I feel the latest passengers\u2019 pain.<\/p>\n\n
