{"id":1816,"date":"2009-05-24T15:01:00","date_gmt":"2009-05-24T15:01:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/highplainsblogger.wordpress.com\/2009\/05\/24\/we-aint-all-cowboys-pahdnuh"},"modified":"2009-05-24T15:01:00","modified_gmt":"2009-05-24T15:01:00","slug":"we-aint-all-cowboys-pahdnuh","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/highplainsblogger.com\/?p=1816","title":{"rendered":"We ain&#8217;t all cowboys, pahdnuh"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"twitter-share\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/intent\/tweet?via=jkanelis\" class=\"twitter-share-button\">Tweet<\/a><\/div>\n<p>Our Rotary Group Study Exchange team was strolling through the old market place in Nazareth, Israel the other day.<\/p>\n<p>Fernando Valle, a team member from Lubbock, was asked by an elderly gentleman, &#8220;Where are you from?&#8221; Fernando responded, &#8220;The United States.&#8221; &#8220;Where in the States?&#8221; the man asked. &#8220;Texas,&#8221; Fernando answered.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Ah, <em>Texas<\/em>,&#8221; the man said, smiling.<\/p>\n<p>He then began twirling his hands, as if to be spinning six-shooters around his trigger finger.<\/p>\n<p>Therein lies the prevailing image that Texas &#8212; and Texans &#8212; seem to have in the Middle East. We&#8217;re all a bunch of gun-slingers.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s not entirely clear to me whether rank-and-file Israelis believe that about Texans and our state, or if they&#8217;re just speaking to the stereotype just to get a rise out of us.<\/p>\n<p>We laugh it off &#8212; and continue to have the time of our lives.<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"twitter-share\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/intent\/tweet?via=jkanelis\" class=\"twitter-share-button\">Tweet<\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Our Rotary Group Study Exchange team was strolling through the old market place in Nazareth, Israel the other day.
