I don\u2019t know if I\u2019m feeling old or if my colleagues\u2019 youth has me perplexed.<\/p>\n

I went to work this week carrying a book to read during some down time. It\u2019s Douglas Brinkley\u2019s biography, \u201cCronkite.\u201d A young colleague sitting next to me who, I guess is perhaps in her late 20s, looked at the book and asked, \u201cWhat are you reading?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cCronkite,\u201d I said. \u201cOh,\u201d she answered. \u201cWho\u2019s he?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cUm, he would be Walter Cronkite,\u201d I said, adding that he was a renowned news anchor and broadcast journalist.<\/p>\n

\u201cOh, I see,\u201d she said. \u201cIs the book good?\u201d she asked. Well, yes, I answered.<\/p>\n

In fairness to my young colleague, Cronkite retired from CBS News in 1981, more than likely before she was born. He kept a fairly low profile in the years since his retirement, although he did produce some news and science specials for CBS until his death in 2009.<\/p>\n

The brief exchange just reminded of me of how quickly this ol\u2019 world has changed \u2013 and continues to change. <\/p>\n

I\u2019m trying to stay current. Honest.<\/p>\n

At times it\u2019s tough to let go of what \u2013 and who \u2013 got us to where we are today. Walter Cronkite, once called the \u201cmost trusted man in America,\u201d was one of those who led us to this point.<\/p>\n\n
