She&#8217;s trying something quite\u00a0extraordinary, in my view. Young has declared her class to be a homework-free zone &#8230; mostly.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.newschannel10.com\/story\/32816219\/texas-teachers-new-homework-policy-goes-viral-on-social-media\">http:\/\/www.newschannel10.com\/story\/32816219\/texas-teachers-new-homework-policy-goes-viral-on-social-media<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Young sent a note home with her students declaring that during this academic year, which began on Monday in Texas, she will assign homework only to those students who didn&#8217;t finish their work in class.<\/p>\n<p>The note she sent has gone viral.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/highplainsblogger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/homework.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-16688\" src=\"https:\/\/highplainsblogger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/homework-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"homework\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/highplainsblogger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/homework-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/highplainsblogger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/homework-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/highplainsblogger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/homework.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>What a novel notion.<\/p>\n<p>My sons are long finished with school. They&#8217;re in their 40s now and have carved out successful careers and lives &#8212; and they have become upstanding men. My wife and I beam with pride at both of them.<\/p>\n<p>Did the homework they lugged home each day during their time in school make them that way? I doubt it very much.<\/p>\n<p>Brandy Young seems to believe that homework might actually be a <em>detriment<\/em> to young people&#8217;s development and growth.<\/p>\n<p>The best part of the note is the advice she gives Mom and Dad. Do things together as a family, she says, and make sure the kids get to bed early.<\/p>\n<p>Will this strategy work? Will it allow her students to perform better in class?
