Darrell Issa say he\u2019s sorry to Jay Carney, the fellow who succeeded Gibbs as White House press secretary.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/story\/2013\/06\/robert-gibbs-darrell-issa-jay-carney-92134.html?hp=l4\" href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/story\/2013\/06\/robert-gibbs-darrell-issa-jay-carney-92134.html?hp=l4\">http:\/\/www.politico.com\/story\/2013\/06\/robert-gibbs-darrell-issa-jay-carney-92134.html?hp=l4<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Issa, the California Republican who chairs the House Government Oversight Committee, called Carney a \u201cpaid liar\u201d the other day, suggesting something quite nefarious in the way Carney has been answering questions about the Internal Revenue Service controversy that still swirls around the White House.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, one of Issa\u2019s GOP colleagues \u2013 Sen. Mike Lee of Utah \u2013 suggested that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid should apologize to Sen. Ted Cruz for calling him a \u201cschoolyard bully.\u201d For my money, calling someone a liar is a good bit more defamatory than labeling someone a \u201cbully.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Carney\u2019s been on the hot seat for sure trying to explain the mess that\u2019s developed over the IRS\u2019s screening of conservative non-profit groups seeking tax-exempt status. He\u2019s doing what press secretaries of both parties always have done \u2013 and continue to do. He\u2019s looking out for the best interests of his boss. <\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s precisely what Chairman Issa\u2019s own press flack does on his behalf.<\/p>\n<p>Issa has not conducted himself \u2013 or allowed his committee to conduct itself \u2013 with much dignity in the hunt for something, indeed <em>anything<\/em>, they can find to hang on the White House and on President Obama.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, an apology is in order, Mr. Chairman.<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"twitter-share\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/intent\/tweet?via=jkanelis\" class=\"twitter-share-button\">Tweet<\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Robert Gibbs has it exactly right in demanding that U.S. Rep.
