Surviving these trying times

By JOHN KANELIS / johnkanelis_92@hotmail.com

To suggest we have been living in trying times is to commit the Mother of Understatements.

We have just said good riddance to someone who in my humble view is without question the most incompetent, imbecilic, venal and vile man ever to occupy the office of president of the United States. You know to whom I refer, so I won’t bother mentioning his name.

We also have this pandemic that continues to kill an alarming number of Americans every day.

It is fair to ponder how we get through this time, through all these crises. I do so practically daily.

My hope is for strength and for patience. Our new president, Joe Biden, is a decent man, in many ways the antithesis of the individual he replaced in the White House. He is enacting policy changes at a blinding pace as he settles in behind the Resolute Desk.

The first order of business is to get rid of the pandemic. President Biden has declared that he is establishing a “war footing” as he fights the virus; he will enact the Defense Production Act to mobilize all available federal resources to the fight against what his predecessor called an “unseen enemy.”

I await the results to bear real and tangible benefit. It will take time. We must not fool ourselves into believing a quick solution is just around the corner.

The Senate trial will be over and behind us likely soon after it begins. Do not expect a conviction of the former president who incited the insurrection on the Sixth of January. If it happens, you will find no one more excited than me; if it doesn’t, well, we will know the names of the Senate cowards who couldn’t put loyalty to the Constitution above their loyalty to an individual.

As we fend off the temptation to assess blame, though, let us give ample thanks to the system ingrained in our government by the wise men who built it in the late 18th century. It is far from perfect, but we knew that to be the case. Our system remains the best hope for the world to emulate.

The difficult era through which we have just passed likely won’t fade soon into our distant memory. How do I know that? Because I continue to write about it on this blog and I am not alone in spending emotional energy on the bygone era.

It will fade eventually. I long for the day when we can look exclusively forward without pondering the hell through which we all traveled.

  1. I didn’t write, but it’s pretty spot on.

More Reversals/Surprises from Biden Administration Week 1

There were more actions taken this week but here are some of the highlights:

    1) Biden reversed the executive order put into place by President Trump to reduce pricing for insulin and epinephrine. This is NOT a partisan issue and will harm Americans. This is Big Pharma vs The Little Guy. (Corrected update: This has been frozen until March.)

    2) Biden Rescinded the Trump Order banning Chinese Communist involvement in our US Power Grid. (Why would a sitting President grant its greatest rival nation access to critical infrastructure?)

    3) After campaigning against the Trump administration response to the pandemic, Biden reversed his position and is now saying “there is nothing we can do to change the pandemic trajectory in coming months.” What happened to his plan? Everything the Biden administration is doing right now was already implemented under the Trump administration.

Trump Administration was currently meeting their goal of 1 million vaccinations per day.

    Media/Biden – that’s not good enough.

President Biden – our goal is 100 million vaccinations in 100 days.

    Media – Awesome!!!

Dear Media, please do some basic math before “reporting”.

***The epitome of media bias and hypocrisy is that CNN has removed it’s COVID death ticker that appeared on the right side of their screen every day for the past 9 months. Once Joe Biden was inaugurated, it miraculously disappeared. Please remember – the mainstream media has an agenda that is completely separate from factually reporting the news. They want to shape public opinion and they do this by how and what they report, as well as what they omit.

    4) President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris recommitted Friday to “codifying Roe v. Wade”. This would prevent Roe v Wade from being overturned by any future Supreme Court decision. This has been attempted by the Democratic party in the past but has failed. Potential to pass with both houses of Congress and the White House increase it’s possibility.

    5) Biden instituted a fracking ban on federal lands. American Indian tribes are already sending letters of condemnation to the President because of the adverse impact this will have on American Indian communities and jobs.

    As a reminder:

Aug 31, 2020 – “I am not banning fracking. Let me say that again. I am not banning fracking, no matter how many times Donald Trump lies about me,” – @Joe Biden

March 19, 2020 – The Washington Post “fact checked” the Trump campaign that used Biden’s own words in a video saying “Trump Campaign Promotes False Claim that Biden Would End Fracking.”

October 10, 2020 – Joe Biden will not ban fracking. That is a fact. -@KamalaHarris

    6) The Biden Administration abolished (not even reformed or repurposed—but abolished) the 1776 Commission, which was aimed at promoting patriotism in American education.

    7) President Biden reinstated critical race theory, teaching race essentialism, collective guilt, and neo-segregation, in the federal government.

    8) Biden rejoined the W.H.O along with reinstating funding. The Trump administration had withdrawn due to slow response to the pandemic, hiding information on COVID-19 from CCP and China-centric history of the W.H.O. The U.S. will once again be the largest single government donor with an estimated $893 million in funding.

    9) After Biden signed an Executive Order halting all deportations, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents are being instructed to free all detainees in their custody. It is unclear if ICE is currently carrying out the mass release of all 14,195 detainees in its custody, 71% of whom are convicted criminals or have pending criminal charges.

There have been over 30 executive actions taken this week. A number of those actions are direct reversals of the Trump administration’s policies. As a reminder, when President Trump sought to reverse several executive orders issued by former President Obama, he was resisted at every level. He faced multiple lawsuits by the Democratic party that he was forced to defend in court. He won some and lost some of those cases.

Where are the Republicans? Sitting idly by watching the gains of the Trump administration be rolled back without lifting a finger of resistance.
