I’m just as qualified as she is

Here’s the question of the day as former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin conducts her book tour: Is Palin qualified to be president of the United States?

The question was put today on a news talk TV show to Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, one of the Republican Party’s brighter bulbs. “Well, she’s constitutionally qualified,” Barbour said.

That’s it? That’s how you answer a straightforward question about someone being touted as her party’s possible standard bearer/savior in 2012?

Well, I’m “constitutionally qualified” to serve as president, too. I was born in the United States. I’ve never been convicted of a felony. I’ve been married to the same woman for 38 years. I have reared two fine sons. I pay my taxes on time. But I’ll never be president.

I think the former governor’s many fans — and she has a lot of them right here in the Panhandle — need to come up with something better than her being qualified under the rules set by the U.S. Constitution.

I’ll welcome any recommendations on her real qualifications.

  1. “[T]hey're in charge of the U.S. Senate so if they want to they can really get in there with the senators and make a lot of good policy changes that will make life better for Brandon and his family and his classroom.” –Sarah Palin, getting the vice president's constitutional role wrong after being asked by a third grader what the vice president does, interview with NBC affiliate KUSA in Colorado, Oct. 21, 2008

  2. She has the most important qualifications for President of the United States – Character and Morals. Two things our current President is obviously lacking. What else do you need? Experience? She has more than our current President. Intelligence? Our current president is exposed as a blathering idiot every time his teleprompter quits on him. She is smarter than John Kanelis and Barack Saddam Hussein Obama bin Laden put together. How about respect for America and our culture and institutions? More things that our current president is obviously lacking.

She also has is cognizant of the facts of history, that socialism leads to poverty, and capitalism leads to wealth and prosperity. Something our current President is evidently ignorant of, or he just wants to make everybody equally poor so that government can control the masses (see first qualification).

There are more ways in which she is very qualified to be President, such as that she would take seriously her oath to uphold and defend the Constitution – as opposed to our current President who is demolishing it it any way that he can.

And of course, last but not least, she is a natural born U.S. citizen – something our current President is not.

As far as John Kanelis having any of these qualifications, well, he might have one of them, but I would have to see the birth certificate before I would even give him that one.

  3. When Bill Clinton was asked the same about Obama's qualification, his response was nearly identical.

It appears that you harbor some sort of grudge against the former Alaska governor. Is it Palin Derangement Syndrome? Whatever the cause, it can't be healthy.

How many editorials concerning President Obama's policies have been published in the AGN this week? or this month?

  4. Nathan, The only two functions prescribed to the Vice President in the Constitution (that is the document on which the United States were founded and which governs the actions of the country, in case you did not know) are to preside over the Senate and Succession. Thanks for showing the general ignorance and hate which the Left embodies!

I have a suggestion, why not find something she was wrong about? While you are looking for ammunition against Palin, you might want to do a little research into the current VPOTUS.

  5. GMAC,

The Vice president only votes in the Senate to break a tie vote. Not “get in there with the senators and make a lot of good policy changes”. That is why she is wrong. And it is not a matter of me being on the left or the right.

Sarah Palin showed a lot of ignorance during McCain's campaign. I do not think she is a dumb woman at all and she does show alot of character. I think she is a bright woman… however, she does not seem to know anything. She gets her facts wrong all the time. She does not seem know anything about other countries or history. She appears incapable of answering a question. She could not even name a magazine she reads during her interview with Katie Couric.

She is a woman who operates on common sense and common sense alone. Like I said, she is in fact a bright woman, but she gives TERRIBLE interviews. She needs ALOT of help if she thinks she can ever get elected. And she needs to study ALOT.

  6. Nathan,

Your beloved Sycophant-in-Chief, President O'Bama, claimed to have been to each of the lower 57 or 58 states.

This nugget of brilliance is more powerful than newly-minted birth certificates.

    John Kanelis,

How many states have you governed in recent memory? 0? How many times have you campaigned for the office of president, while uniquely bearing the crushing pressure of intense media scrutiny and unconditioned assault? 0 again? Well, I guess you're not as qualified as you think you are.

Lets take a second to step back and re-examine the scope of our current situation:
Democrats in Washington, led by President O'Bama, are spending money as fast as humanly possible with no end in sight. We are one day away from a crucial senate vote that may dramatically affect the lives of each American. Where is our watchdog, the free press? He is snoozing comfortably in the lap of his dear leader, pausing only to compose the occasional blog and comment on the dangerous potential of Sarah Palin.

Mr. Kanelis, don't you have anything to say about government-run insurance, unbelievable national debt, or heavily regulated energy consumption? Or are you still dazed by the “historical” element of His election?

  7. I believe you're bloggers comment that Sarah Palin knows
“nothing”should just about perfectly qualify her for the presidency considering what we now have in the White
House! Now as far as the editors qualifications go,those
“all american” factors that he lists are hated and looked
down upon by progressive “left”. In order to get any backing from these “new age” socialists he will have to bone up on “anti-americanism”,tax cheating, and blaming the
United States for global terrorism.Looks like the editor may have a way to go!

  8. Qualifications? Barack Obama, a freshman senator who has never worked a real job, has ascended to Presidency. When did you determine that emphasis should again be placed on abstract qualifications?

Is it true that “qualifications” are required exclusively for white candidates?

  9. So Nathan, I guess you would have preferred Mrs. Palin quote Jack Garner and tell the kids that the “Vice Presidency is not worth a bucket of warm piss”? Or maybe you would have preferred that she answer as Joe Biden did when interviewed by a 5th grader. He said the VP does two things. He helps the president “get elected” and “he helps the president run the government”. I guess you feel that is accurate.

What I have noticed is that no conservative candidate (ok, maybe Reagan was an exception) has ever interviewed well with Liberal media… hmmm… I wonder why? Yet liberals constantly get a pass for their boners. Like Gore not recognizing the busts of Washington, Franklin and Lafayette and him taking initiative in creating the internet. Or Biden telling Chuck Graham, a state senator confined to a wheel chair, to “Stand Up Chuck and let 'em see you”.

Also, what is the problem with Palin not reading magazines? Which one is required to be fit for office? Better Homes and Gardens, People, “O” or maybe the National Enquirer.

BTW, when Biden was asked this question, what was his answer?
