Follow your boss’ lead, Mr. Vice President

Former President Bush has it right, and ex-VP Cheney has it wrong.

Bush ventured this week to Calgary, Alberta, and told his audience in his first post-presidential speech that President Obama “deserves my silence,” meaning that he isn’t going to criticize his successor’s handling of the myriad problems he inherited when he took office on Jan. 20. The 43rd president is following the lead of his father, the 41st president.

Good for him. He’s had his time on the mountaintop. It’s time to let the new guy lead the greatest nation on the planet. And, oh yes, President Bush wishes President Obama well and hopes he succeeds in his efforts — unlike some in his Republican Party who wish failure on the president.

Now for Cheney. The former veep continues to pop off. He questions whether Obama’s policies will keep us safe. He second-guesses the policy decisions handed down by the White House.

President Obama deserves Vice President Cheney’s silence as well.

Come to think of it, the rest of us deserve it too.

  1. Who in the republican party wishes Obama to fail? Are you like the other liberals that say Rush said that? I was listening to Rush that day everyone claims Rush said he wants Obama to fail as president. He said that if Obama’s policies are to move down the path of socialism, he wants Obama to fail. That is because socialism is a complete failure and he does not want to see our country fail any worse than it already is. He said he will support Obama as long as he does not move towards socialism. As a so called journalist, you should be able to understand that or maybe not. You do write for AGN.

  2. While neither Bush or Cheney have the ability to admit to using poor judgment or making mistakes, at least Bush has taken the right path in not commenting on the efforts the Obama administration has had to take to try and clean up the mess Bush left behind.

  3. is the former republican vice-president picking on your boy, kanelis? boo-hoo.is obama’s skin so thin that he (and you) cannot bear the discomfort of legitimate criticism? the double standard that you apply against conservatives is quite childish. as a moderate, you prefer to expend your editorial efforts in defense of obama rather than stimulate relevant conversation.

  4. Robert, you poor ignorant person. I heard Rush that day too, and he said it and he meant it. He has taken such heat for the remark that he and his brainless dittoheads like you are trying to find him cover. The AGN ran a column today by Kathleen Parker. Read it. Open your mind.

  5. Actually Robert, LImbaugh not only said he hopes Obama fails, he wrote an entire column about it. Here is a link to a transcript for his January 19th show and a couple of quotes from that transcript.“I don’t care what the Drive-By story is. I would be honored if the Drive-By Media headlined me all day long: “Limbaugh: I Hope Obama Fails.” Somebody’s gotta say it. “ “I’ve been listening to Barack Obama for a year-and-a-half. I know what his politics are. I know what his plans are, as he has stated them. I don’t want them to succeed.”Robert you obviously are ashamed to admit Limbaugh said what he said or you wouldn’t be trying to rewrite his words. I’ve got a better idea. Stop listening to him, stop buying into his lies.

  6. limbaugh haters: is that all you’ve got?“I hope the President fails.”awesome. what an excellent example of earth-altering commentary. i surely hope that no one was offended. here, in america, we all know that only conservative christians can be targeted for ridicule and criticism.what would you be doing instead if you were not busy inserting words into limbaugh’s mouth? if you weren’t busy explaining limbaugh’s evil motives and our conservative conspiracy for world domination, we might be discussing prevalent issues that affect us all – such as how we will restore the incentive to produce. where is the rallying cry for production? when will productivity again be linked with patriotism? creating new wealth by encouraging investment is the only way we will actually recover. obama plans to encourage debt by funding banks and forcing them to again make ridiculous loans.

  7. So you have heard something different than me. While you were drinking the cool aide of the left, the fed was printing another trillion dollars to put in their other pocket. I do hope Obama fails and that has absoulutely nothing to do with Rush or any other talking head.

  8. We don’t have to put words into his mouth, he does a good enough job to showing the fool that he is all by himself. And that open black shirt and his jumping around and flashing his own version of “gang” signs, well, that was attractive, too.
